These play days are used for rating new and returning umpires. Please email the board if you can't attend a play day and need to make alternative plans for a rating.

PENALTY STROKE

While we no longer use strokes as a tie-breaker procedure, this video demonstrates how to manage a stroke as both the lead and trail umpire.

1 v 1 SHOOTOUT

The 1v1 procedure is used as a tie-breaker in the tournament. Watch this series between the USA and Australia. Be familiar with what fouls by the keeper result a retake and what fouls might result in a stroke.

Black pants, shorts, or skirt - prioritize pockets (look for golf and tennis)

Sneakers or turf shoes - preferably black

Fox 40 Whistle

Watch - for keeping time on the field

Jacket - highlighter yellow (look for cycling)

Radios

Visor or hat - black

Long black socks and long sleeve black undershirt

I'm looking to take the next step...what should I do?

Attending a USA Field Hockey event is the best way to up your game. 

These events are one of the only ways to obtain the Level II rating required for college games.
